Making is learning. It has become rare in Western society that we make something ourselves. Nowadays almost every product can be bought for a price so low and a quality so high that it appears foolish for most people to make it themselves. As a consequence the vast majority of the people are users and only users. Unfortunately, the price that we pay for being users is high. Users are fairly ignorant about the product they buy. They often lack understanding of a product and how it is made. As a result products get thrown away when they appear to be broken. Making something yourself is a huge learning experience. Not only do you learn a lot about the product you're making but also about the techniques and tools your using while making it. This adds great value to the product and as a bonus if it's broken your probably able to repair it.

Making is fun. Making something yourself is, I discovered, a liberating experience. It is hard to explain the feeling when, after hard work, making mistakes, trying over and over again the product is finished and you're looking at it. It is probably best described as a mixture of great joy and pride. Something you want to share with the world.

Making is sharing. When working on a project crucial information is gathered from other makers on the internet. I can't imagine finishing a project without this. These makers are sharing this information unselfishly and for free. It is therefore obligatory to share as much as possible on your projects. Hopefully this inspires other makers to achieve great things.
